The It-Girl at the Design Party is the Powder Room

It’s no secret that powder rooms are the it-girl at the design party these days. A chance to have fun, play with color and pattern and create an experience for your guests – all with the smaller commitment of a typically tiny space and therefore a smaller investment. Over the years, we’ve turned quite a few of our clients’ powder rooms into special spaces. Here are a few notes. :)

Wallpapered Powder Room

Wallpaper - It’s somewhat obvious from pinterest and instagram but this is definitely the room to go for it with wallpaper. Taking a risk with a fun paper gives guests a moment of delight and surprise in this utilitarian space.

Powder Room Color Drenching

Color drenching - In the same vein as wallpaper, bold color drenching works well in powder rooms – especially when there isn’t a window for natural light – lean into the jewel box concept!

Powder Room Mirror

Reconsider your mirror - Resist a basic mirror. Instead, go vintage, funky or something with some mixed metals or finishes.

Powder Room Lighting

Considerations for lighting - Lighting can also go beyond what is strictly functional or what is technically required. In other words, there’s no need for perfect makeup lighting – powder rooms can go a little moody.

Non Traditional Powder Room

Incorporate the nontraditional - Play around with nontraditional elements – a brass wastebasket, a vintage bowl for soap – Bryn recently sourced an antique Chinese wedding basket to hold toilet paper in a soon-to-be revealed project.
