How We Are Surviving Winter: A Round Up of Sanity Saving Ideas

This winter has been tough, but we are surviving. This meme made me snort laugh when I read it last month. Here we are half-way through February so apparently we did survive the gray, cold slog that January in Illinois turned out to be.  Coming at you this month are a few ways the Two Hands team coped with the longest month of the year, as well as some ideas to keep us going through the rest of winter. Here’s to ever-longer hours of sunlight and the slow but promised march towards spring!

  • I survived January…by sneaking away to HOTEL ZAZA in Houston.  I’m in a season of club sport travel with my junior and when we ended up with an event that didn’t have a stay to play requirement (any of you on this same circuit know exactly what that looks like!). I jumped at the chance to upgrade the experience.  If you end up in Texas soon, check out one of these four boutique hotels that are taking the state by storm.  Thoughtfully designed with fun details, a killer pool and in-house spa - this was definitely a better way to relax after a long day on the fields.

The Two Hands crew spoiled me on my birthday - I was gifted the Trader Joe’s “L’OCCITANE” DUPE LOTION that is apparently taking the internets by storm.  It’s helped me survive the winter with its yummy smelling hydration and lives in my work bag.

Karen:

  • I am obsessed with Half Baked Harvest! So this winter I have dug into her recipes to get out of the dinner slump and bring a little energy to the darker winter nights with lots of flavor. A favorite currently on repeat is HEALTHIER CROCKPOT BUTTER CHICKEN. We love all things Indian food at our house and this lighter take is sooo good. And the fact that I can throw this in the crockpot and have dinner ready when I get home is a big win.

Kim:

  • BROADWAY IN CHICAGO came through with another great date night in January.  The weather even cooperated for my husband and I to sneak away from the burbs for dinner and Hamilton. It felt like such a treat to head into the city for an evening - and of course, Hamilton was amazing.

  • Ok, hear me out - there is something about how you feel when your nails are “done.” We all have the friend who always has gorgeous nails.  Well, I finally pressed her for her tricks and you’ll never guess - stickers! Yes, DASHING DIVAS nail stickers.  I gave them a shot and am now addicted.

  • Who has ever been axe throwing? This was my very first time trying it and - bullseye!  Breaking up the regular weekend activities with something new and different can make a big difference on a chilly night.

  • Coffee! Coffee helps survive every day, especially a cold day.  By frothing my almond milk and honey that go into my coffee, it makes an everyday treat into a special treat - that I do enjoy every day.  This little tool is a must for hot chocolate and is way more useful than you might think.
