MID-MOD-INSPIRED REBUILD
Project
A family of six landed an amazing property. Across the street from the town pool, a stone’s throw from parks, in walking distance to downtown Glen Ellyn — all the things. The only catch was it needed a major facelift. Two Hands Interiors worked closely with this client and our friends over at Wetmore Construction on a rebuild that involved just about every square foot. The entryway, the kitchen, the family room, the dining area, the lounge, the screened in porch, the primary bedroom-bathroom suite, the stairwell to the kids’ bedrooms and bathrooms – all of it was in play.
Inspiration
We nodded to Mid-Century Modern with the design of this home and used warm, earthy tones in the kitchen and primary bathroom (lush mossy green tile, walnut cabinetry!). We carried over the green to the powder room, but gave it some more drama with the foil wallpaper and an almost emerald paint to match. The lounge area is moody with color, textiles, and some reupholstered Mid-Mod lounge chairs. We gathered this client’s art collected over the years, had them framed and grouped for quite an impact in a gallery wall/hall of sorts. Upstairs, the kids’ personalities are reflected in the spaces in a way that will grow with them (even while standing up through the little kid years).
Client
This client wanted a home that could support a very full and active family life – where their kids could be kids. Take a look at the gorgeous custom white oak banquette with commercially rated velvet built for the realities of family living. Also, the school art hung above the banquette. :) But they also wanted a home where they could also entertain friends. Think: moody lounge. And a place where they could exhale at the end of a busy day or get ready for one in peace. Here’s looking at you, primary bathroom.
